Description
Volunteer Abroad Corps provides an opportunity for those of the Western world
who are interested in helping handicapped children and orphans
in Yunnan. Specifically, you would volunteer at the Yunnan
Children Welfare Center (a social welfare charity organization)
or other child welfare institution in Yunnan.
There are
already more than six hundred children under the age of sixteen
in the Yunnan Children Welfare Center. Some children are hearing
impaired or mentally challenged. Some have been
deserted
by their families, and others have lost their parents.
These
children should have happy and healthy childhoods like other
little children. Luck, however, didn’t smile on them. They are
often very lonely. If you cannot see the blue sky, the green
fields and the vivid flowers, if you cannot hear the songs of
the birds and different voices of people, if you cannot touch
the face of your parents or even be embraced by your parents in
your dreams, what will your life be like? Love and caring are
what are most important to them. Love and caring are all that
they want from you.

children in the orphanage:
Long Long -
When you see
a little boy playing beautiful tunes on the piano, you might not
understand why such a brilliant boy was deserted and put into
the Welfare Center. He has no hearing aid on his ears. He has
two arms and two legs. Nothing different. However, if you see
the scars on his arms, you may understand why...
Fei Fei
-
Fei Fei, is
a sweet little girl who likes reading, drawing, playing with
dolls, watching cartoons just like other little girls. She also
likes singing and listening to music. But she isn’t able to
dance because she lost her left leg as the result of an
accident...
Yang Yang
-
When you see
Yang Yang, he looks just like any other little boy, wearing a
cowboy suit and eating Chinese yam soup. You can also see a
smile on his face. But when you look closely, it is not
difficult to see that there is a hearing aid
in his ears. Yes, that’s the
difference between him and other children. And that’s also the
reason why his parents abandoned him...
